This project estimates the impact of the Affordable Care Act’s requirement that private insurance plans must cover preventive services without cost-sharing on the use of those services. The analysis uses data from health plans covering University of Michigan employees and their dependents, all of which lost their ‘grandfathered’ status in January 2011. We analyze the impact of the change in price for different types of services and estimate which groups of enrollees (e.g. high-wage versus low-wage) have a larger demand response to the change in price.
