Expanded state Medicaid programs under the Affordable Care Act may bring new opportunities to connect low-income adults to preventive health care. Changes in the utilization of preventive care may have important consequences for the health status and future health care spending of this population. This session features two papers that examine the relationship between the use of preventive services among Medicaid-eligible adults and variation in insurance coverage or access to primary care. The third paper analyzes the long-term health effects of previous expansions in Medicaid preventive care for low-income pregnant women.
