Newell McElwee, PharmD, MSPH, Associate Vice President, Center for Observational and Real-World Evidence (CORE), Merck Research Laboratories, received his Pharm.D. from Mercer University. He completed his M.S.P.H .(Epidemiology) and a postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Utah. He also completed an ASHP residency in Clinical Pharmacy at Forth Worth Osteopathic Hospital. Dr. McElwee serves an active role on many committees including the Steering Committee for the AHRQ Centers for Education, Research, and Training, the Advisory Board for the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review at Harvard Medical School, the External Advisory Board for the Section on Value and Comparative Effectiveness at New York University, the Corporate Advisory Board at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy, and the Executive Committee for the Foundation for Managed Care Pharmacy. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine's Roundtable on Health Disparities and Inequities and has an adjunct faculty appointment in the Institute for Clinical Research and Health Policy Studies, Tufts Medical Center.  Dr. McElwee has recently served on the AHRQ Effective Health Care Stakeholder Group and has been on AHRQ study sections for reviewing grants in comparative effectiveness research.
